Indecipherable but delightful, somehow ... That’s how I felt in 1978 about finding a perfect-bound, card-covered copy of a magazine called pininfarina from 1965, completely in Italian, unintelligible—to me—but seductive in that its articles segued from one illustrated with Kandinsky and mathematical formulas, to another with tetrahedrons and maps drawn in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, and wait—there’s an engraving of Gutenberg and his press, then a foldout of the Mariner Mars spacecraft. In this curious magazine, the article “Front Transverse Engines” (even in English, this is a foreign language to me) bumped up against Morandi and the Bayeaux Tapestry, ...
