The Equivalent Series by Alfred Stieglitz is ostensibly a collection of photographs of clouds and sky intended as abstract images conveying the photographer’s emotive and philosophical summation of his life’s work. The images in the series are mostly without any traditional reference points and transcend literal interpretation of evidence of nature; they are destabilized evocations equally dependent on the perceptions of the viewer as well as each image’s inherent formal qualities.
