SELECTED BYKEN GARLANDLILLIPUTART DIRECTED BYSTEFAN LORANT
In July 1937, the first issue of the monthly Lilliput appeared. Though ostensibly a British periodical, it was conceived, edited, and part owned by a Hungarian exile, Stefan Lorant. Born Istvn Lrnt in 1901, he had been a photographer, film cameraman, and film director in Austria and Germany, and in 1933 was editor of the highly successful pictorial publication Munchner Illustrierte Presse. When the Nazis marched into Munich in March of that year, he was immediately arrested without charge and spent six and a half months in prison, after which he fled to Hungary and went to Britain.
