Olive Beaupre Miller was thirty-seven in 1920 when her newly founded publishing company released the first edition of the My Book House set. In it, Miller had collected and edited (and in some cases, written) the best in children’s stories and poems from around the world. It was the first time anyone had published a collection of stories that grew with a child’s developing abilities and needs. It’s an amazingly diverse and sensitive sampler of children’s literature, remarkably free of much of the prejudice of the time, and one that still holds up today. In fact, it’s still in print.
