An administrator should have access to key information about hardware being used in a network: information such as the brand, model, and serial number of a hardware component; when was it purchased; who the vendor was; when is it due for replacement; and so on. A proper tracking system can save a lot of time when any of this information needs to be retrieved. Each company is different, and thus, tracking systems could be different, but the responsibility of gathering this information falls solely on the network manager or administrator. If there is no system in place, then creating a simple spreadsheet can be enough to keep track of all hardware information.
