IT equipment is totally submerged in mineral oil. Hot oil is pumped through a liquid-to-liquid heat exchanger, where the heat is carried away, using water, to an outside cooling tower. Water and oil never have full contact, only heat transfer. This is not only the most cost-effective liquid cooling solution today, but also the messiest, as servers are dipped in oil. It also requires more space, since all racks are laid on their backs. However, this extra space can easily be compensated for by increased density per node.
