The Resize disk option only supports increasing the size of the virtual disk image file. It has no shrink function. The Proxmox Resize disk option only adjusts the size of the virtual disk image file. After any resizing, the partition must be adjusted from inside the VM. The safest way to resize partitions is to boot a Linux-based virtual machine with a partitioning ISO image, such as GParted (http://gparted.org/download.php), and then resize the partitions using the GParted graphical interface.
