There are many Java development environments available today, and any of these environments can be used to create Java-based portlets to be deployed to the Oracle Application Server. Oracle provides, however, an add-in for its Oracle JDeveloper product that makes developing and deploying portlets much easier. An add-in is a small piece of code added to the Oracle JDeveloper environment to enhance its functionality.
