12SAN Multiprotocol Routing: An Introduction and Implementation
1.3.4 Write acceleration
Write acceleration, or fast write as it is sometimes called, is designed to mitigate
the problem of the high latency of long-distance networks. Write acceleration
eliminates the time spent waiting for a target to tell the sender that it is ready to
receive data. The idea is to send the data before receiving the ready signal,
knowing that the ready signal will almost certainly arrive as planned. Data
integrity is not jeopardized because the write is not assumed to have been
successful until the final acknowledgement has been received.
