1.3.5 Tape acceleration
Tape acceleration (TA) takes write acceleration one step further by “spoofing” the
transfer ready and the write acknowledgement. This gives the tape transfer a
better chance of streaming rather than running stop and start. The risk here is
that writes have been acknowledged but might not have completed successfully.
Without tape acceleration, a sophisticated backup/restore application, such as
IBM Tivoli® Storage Manager, can recover and restart from a broken link.
