If your data contains many locations that do not get mapped easily using Tableau default hierarchies, instead of trying to correct every error manually, you can just extend the locations to include these missing values. The import file should contain the names matching the hierarchy you are extending and data for all levels above the location you are extending. For example, if you wanted to extend the States mapping to improve it, you will need to include the columns for State/Province and Country along with Latitude and Longitude. For example, if we want to add the following location to our data, we will first create a .csv, as follows:
