Example 2 – difference in average profit

Using the Global Superstore dataset, for profitable orders, we want to know the difference between the average profit per line by category and market, compared to the average for the entire category. For example, what is the difference between the average profit for Office Supplies orders in Africa and the average profit for any order in Africa?

We can first define Order Profitable? as IF {FIXED [Order ID]:SUM([Profit])} > 0 THEN 'Profitable' ELSE 'Not Profitable' END, which will calculate the overall profit for each Order ID and make for a quick filter.

We can then plot the average Profit, slicing by Category and Market, filtering for profitable orders, turning on Grand Total for rows:
