Splitting fields

If one of your fields is a string and you need to split it up, you can use Tableau's split into multiple fields options. When you are on the Data Source page in the data grid, click the down caret icon next to a column, then click the Split option. The split will be automatic, but you can get more control of the split if you click the Custom Split... option. When using the automatic split option, the field is split on a common separator that Tableau identifies. In the following example, it is a space between the first and last name.
