Exercise: Stress stores

  1. Find your stress stores by paying particular attention to your back, shoulders, neck, head, scalp, forehead, temples and eyes. You don’t need to do any work; just notice any tension you may feel. Don’t resist it or try to get rid of it – just acknowledge it.
  2. Now, wherever you feel pain, focus on it and try to relax the area, either by physically massaging it or by willing the body to relax.
  3. At first massage will be easier, but after some practice you will be able to release tension at will. With enough awareness you can concentrate on the individual muscles and relax them. It’s like learning to raise one eyebrow; it just takes some practice to find and isolate the right muscles.
