CASE STUDY
Vivian works as a lawyer in a large law firm. Her work is client-led and deal-focused, so her workload is determined by what deals she is working on at any given time. There is always clearly defined work to do, and she has some awareness of the work that is coming in.
What doesn’t work are the gaps in her day, during which she is not being productive and is waiting for others to finish their work, which often results in the main bulk of the work being done after 5pm.
The changes she could make to her structure are to use the unproductive times to go to the gym, get a massage, do further study, or do some important yet not urgent work that will fulfil her long-term goals. Other things to do could be system maintenance to improve productivity. ...
