AS YOU START adding images to documents in Photoshop, you will run in to what is called “placing” images. You can place an image by dragging it onto the Photoshop workspace, or by selecting File > Place Embedded or File > Place Linked and navigating to the image you want to use. If you select Place Embedded, Photoshop makes a copy of the image and embeds it in the PSD file. If you select Place Linked, Photoshop uses a link to the original image file, so the file is not actually embedded in your document and the resulting PSD file size is much smaller than if you had embedded the image.
