A HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE (HDR) image is made up of a series of images of the same subject that were all taken at different exposures. This allows you to show an increased dynamic range in a single image. For example, take a look at the images shown in Figures 48.1–48.3. The first image is underexposed, but you can see some of the detail outside through the windows of the Navy destroyer. The middle frame has some good tonality, but what you can see through the windows is now a little overexposed and you still can’t see everything inside.
