Over time you will develop a balance in your activities, with regular cycles to accommodate budget and planning cycles, project waves and holiday seasons. We split the different types of activity in these cycles into three broad categories, which might be considered the operating model for enterprise architecture:

1. Development: From the analysis of requirements to the creation of models, standards, patterns and guidance for the desired direction.
2. Operations: Using the architecture to govern and manage change in the organisation.
3. Organisation: Building and maintaining the architecture team, defining roles and responsibilities, developing relationships and balancing the operating model.
