I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
23 A JACK OF ALL TRADES
The breadth of skills for an enterprise architect role can seem quite daunting. Job descriptions don’t contain just the soft skills, but also the ability to work from strategic planning, through designs, roadmaps, governance, in multiple business and technology domains. Hence the phrase ‘jack of all trades’ can be applied to an enterprise architect.
The full quote is ‘A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.’ You don’t need to be the best at all of them. You don’t need to be the best in any of them. You just need to be good enough to work with others who have the skills.
