You have content to communicate, but can you influence others to use it? In 1936 Dale Carnegie67 wrote How to Win Friends and Influence People on how to positively influence others. In advertising, in marketing68 and through social media algorithms, others seek to influence us to make decisions for their benefit. As enterprise architects we have to understand how to influence and how to spot when we are being influenced, and consciously decide how to respond. Robert Cialdini’s69 six principles – reciprocity, commitment and consistency, social proof, authority, liking and scarcity – can be instrumental in driving successful organisational change and fostering collaboration.
