Design for passive attention.

Most digital products require interaction to be useful. Twitter, for example, is valuable only if people tweet, like, comment, follow, and keep up with their feed. Otherwise, it’s not. This is true for all interfaces, with the exception of smartwatches, activity trackers, or smart home devices like lightbulbs, switches, doorbells, or thermostats. Smart devices don’t require any interaction from the user to provide value or be functional.
