One of the most complex design systems we ever created was part of the USA Today’s website redesign in 2012. Not only did we have to create a system that could easily be whitelabeled for all the other newspapers owned by parent company, Gannett, but we also had to make sure that the content management system that powered the entire experience was flexible enough so editors could easily change the priorities of the news articles on the homepage as soon as news would break.
