As a final illustration, we evaluate the performance of the uncertainty-aware extreme event detec-

tor, U-COL, introduced in Section 8.5.2. To this end, Figure 8.23 shows the identified instants (dashed

vertical lines) for which an alerting notification is sent by the U-HDMA system for the conduc-

tivity and temperature sensors shown in Figure 8.22. More specifically, the typical COL and the

uncertainty-aware U-COL methods are employed for early warning about an abnormal behavior in

the acquired sensor data using the following rule: “an alerting notification is sent by the system if
