方法論を取り上げます。ここでもう一つ予備知識として理解しておく必要があるの
が、今まで「設計」と大ざっぱなくくりで呼んでいた作業が、システム開発全体に
おいてどのような位置を占めているか、という点についてです。読者のみなさんの
中には、すでに何年かのシステム開発のキャリアを積んできた方もいるでしょう。
そうした方は、設計について具体的なイメージを持っていると思いますが、そうで
はない方のために、ここで設計の基本的な流れを整理しておきます。
システム開発は、よく建物や橋など建造物を造る行為にたとえられます。もとも
と、比較的歴史の浅いIT業界は、その仕事の進め方を他の業界から借りている部
分が多いのです。
開発は、建築と同様、いくつかの工程（ステップ）に分解することができます。
大きな分類としては以下のとおりです。

システムが満たすべき機能やサービスの水準、すなわち要件を決める工程で
す。通常は何らかの形で外部の顧客と要件を合意しますが、パッケージソフトや
Web サービスの場合は、自社内のみで要件を定義することもあります。
