Though closed environments make it a lot easier to test deployments through virtualization, assessing the performance level will never be the same as on real hardware. The reason for this is the use of virtualized hardware instead of physical hardware. Problems and errors encountered during deployment and testing will always require a real-time physical hardware test in order to ensure complete stability. This is because logging these problems and errors in real time isn't equally feasible as with actual hardware. High-performance computing with huge amounts of data is also not feasible due to the lack of real hardware.
