To illustrate a large dataset, let's consider the example of cancer research data. The number of patients suffering from this deadly disease are only growing every year. A lot of cancer research is still underway and from the machine learning standpoint, the amount of data being generated for one cancer type on a global scale alone is enormous. Now if we were to expand that to all the other types of cancer, the amount of data would only increase exponentially; this will increase even further as we move from all cancer types to all disease types. So now, we are looking at nothing but big data, because the data being handled is to be processed, analyzed, and stored on an incredibly large scale.
