It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Operating system deployment
Here we'll discuss a number of concerns when specifying the base operating system installation on your servers as well as platform-level options that facilitate the management of Ceph systems.
Firstly, mirror your boot drives. While a well-architected Ceph infrastructure can readily cope with the loss of an entire server if an unmirrored boot drive fails, it's much better to avoid this sort of large, sudden event. Boot drive mirroring can be done via HBA or in software using the Linux MD system. Many recent server product lines offer dual rear-panel or even internal drive bays for operating system installation.
