It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Service management
Each Ceph MON, OSD, RGW, MDS, and in recent releases Manager (ceph-mgr) daemon is structured as a Linux service. Starting and stopping these are at times necessary. The mechanics for doing so differ among Linux distributions, and even among releases of a given distribution.
