It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Cost of a .Mac membership
A .Mac account costs $99.95 per year. Schools can get an unlimited number of accounts for $59.95 a year, per account. Sign up at www.mac.com or in the .Mac preferences, as shown on page 289.
Anyone can get a free .Mac trial account for sixty days which gives you limited access to the features and software described above. If you decide not to sign up after sixty days, you can still keep your Mac.com address and use it for iChats and instant messaging!
A .Mac membership does not include isp service; that is, a .Mac account will not connect you to the Internet. You still need to sign up with an Internet Service Provider for that.
