The graph model/Gremlin API

In the graph model database, data is stored in graphs, with vertices (or nodes; vertex is the singular term), edges, and properties to represent your data. A graph is a mathematical structure and you probably know of them, even if not formally. While I'm not going to go into graph theory here, you can think of a graph as objects that are connected by certain relationships. For example, John and Mary are two people, or objects, that are connected by a relationship such as married or coworkers, or maybe both. Social networks such as Facebook and LinkedIn heavily rely on graph theory to model their data.
