So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Planning for containerization
Before you start preparing Dockerfiles and building Docker images, it is important that you understand how your application components work, how Docker will help them, and, most importantly, whether you need Docker for them. While you can run pretty much every type of application in Docker, that doesn't mean you necessarily have to. Confusing enough? Let's dive in to clarify this.
Before you start containerizing, ask yourself a few questions:
- What's the challenge you're trying to solve by containerizing your application or what feature do you want to utilize most after you move to containers?
- What is the nature of your application components? Divide them into stateful and stateless categories.
