Hardware failure is something that is expected to happen, but it will not be the cause of database loss.
Just like replication is provided for Azure Storage, there is something similar for Azure databases.
If a hardware failure occurs, don't worry – three copies of your database have been separated across three physical nodes. The three copies consist of one primary replica and two secondary replicas, and in order to avoid any data loss, write operations are not committed in the primary replica until they have been committed in one of the secondary replicas. Therefore, whenever a hardware failure occurs, it will fail-over to the secondary replica.
