Building a Docker host in Azure

In the next couple of sections, we'll learn how to build Docker images and run containers with a hands-on lab. We'll be using an Ubuntu-based Docker host running in Azure. Let's build a lab VM in Azure for this.

We'll be deploying an Ubuntu host in Azure and then installing Docker using Azure VM extensions. We'll use the ARM template that's available in the quickstart repository to do this. Follow these steps to deploy a Docker host in Azure:

  1. Launch a modern browser and open https://github.com/Azure/azure-quickstart-templates/tree/master/docker-simple-on-ubuntu.
  1. Click on the Deploy to Azure button. This will launch the Azure portal and will ask you to log in (if you're not logged in already).
