When shooting action in low light, a primary issue that comes up is digital noise due to the high ISO settings. The noise shows up as random spots of color that are more noticeable in smooth tone areas of your images. Noise reduction works by smoothing out these unwanted colors, but it can cause the image to look a little soft. That’s why we add a little sharpening at the same time. Photoshop and Lightroom offer multiple methods for reducing noise; a couple methods are covered here.
