Photographing Indoor Sports: The Right Settings, Gear, and Tips for Shooting Basketball, Martial Arts, and Other Low-light Sports

Basketball
Basketball is a lot of fun to watch and can be pretty easy to shoot. The game happens in a very limited space, and you already know where the ball is supposed to go. For college and professional games, the photographers are assigned spots and must remain there while the game is going on. These spots are located at the ends of the court, allowing the photographers to capture the action as it comes toward them. This is a great place to photograph basketball from, but it’s often inaccessible when shooting in a local gym due to space constraints. If this is the case, try to stay on the sideline closest to your team’s basket. This allows you to capture the players as they come toward the basket and shoot to score.
