Introduction from Robin

Carmen and I have known each

other for more than thirty years.

We’ve gone through school, small

businesses, marriages, births, deaths,

divorces, new partners, foreign

countries, and teenagers together.

You’d think we’re probably somewhat

alike, but we’re as di erent as can

be, and I think you’ll notice that in

this book. For one thing, Carmen is a

skilled illustrator and watercolorist;

I’m terrifi ed of paint brushes unless

it’s to paint the side of a house. So

where Carmen gives you an elegant,

controlled, lovely example, I often
