Stu to Put on your Surfaces
Palettes
My palette is just a big, plastic rectangle with
wells for colors and a top to cover it. Some water-
color artists use large, white butchers’ trays. It’s
important to have a large area for mixing colors
(I fi nd the tiny palettes a little dysfunctional).
Watercolor paint left in the palette, even if it’s been
dry for ten years, will turn into usable paint again
as soon as you add water. It’s kind of magical. So
just leave your palette to dry.
For acrylic paints, use disposable palettes and
only pour into it what paint you need because
once it’s dry, acrylic paint turns into plastic.
