Rub and Rag the Paint
When paint gets rubbed into the crevices of a textured piece, it
creates beautiful depth and richness. You’ll fi nd this technique
to be one of the most often used in your repertoire. Combine it
with any technique that creates even the slightest texture on the
page, and even try it on a smoothly painted background—rub in
some paint and rub most of it o , leaving just a mottled layer of
complexity.
Tip! Also try sandpaper:
When you’ve got several
layers of paint,
lightly sand some of the
top layer to expose the
underlying color.
