With Linoleum Blocks
Linoleum blocks are tougher to carve than the rubber blocks
shown on the previous pages, but you can get more detail,
especially if you buy higher quality linoleum. The cheap stu ,
shown above, is okay, but we would recommend something like
Richeson Easy-to-Cut Linoleum for a more satisfying carving
experience. Watch out for standard linoleum, often called
“battleship gray”—it’s really hard and tough to cut, although
you will get the fi nest lines.
Make sure your tools are sharp! You run less risk of cutting
your hands if your tools are sharp enough to go through the
linoleum easily. W
