Modeling pastes come in di erent weights and have di erent
application requirements depending on the specifi c one used.
The consistency of some is that of frosting; others are more like
heavy cream or gel.
You can apply these pastes to a variety of surfaces—canvas,
Bristol board, illustration board, heavy watercolor papers,
masonite—just about anything that has a hefty substance.
Once a paste is spread on the chosen surface but before it is dry,
it’s easy to comb, scratch, swirl, or brush other elements into
