It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

2.8 Summary
We have provided an inventory of some of the cellular telephony systems where the chal-
lenges of roaming in wireless networks were first encountered. These challenges have been
addressed, to varying degrees, over the span of more than 30 years. Many fundamentally
different technologies have come into play in this long process. The differences among
FDMA, TDMA, and CDMA are pronounced. Hard handoffs are radically different from soft
handoffs. We have seen that in some cases combinations of these technologies have been
used successfully in a single system. It is out of this complex brew of technologies that
