7.2.1 Introduction
Addressing security concerns by patching up holes in the 802.11 standard has led to a very
interesting set of continuously evolving developments. Figure 7.1 shows the evolution of
standards-based 802.11-security technologies over recent years. The diagram is split into two
halves along the vertical axis. The top half refers to the encryption technologies introduced
during a particular time period. The bottom half lists EAP methods introduced at that time.
We use the term “introduced” here to refer to the availability of commercial implementations
rather than the mere availability of a specification. ...
