overhead related to call admission that would occur after the association and key exchange

upon a roam. This two-frame removal is accomplished by overloading the effect of the

802.11e ADDTS into new IEs in the Authentication-Association exchange. While the elimina-

tion of these two call-admission frames has potential benefits as use of 802.11e expands

in the future, its short-term benefits are likely to be more limited, which is attributed to the fact

that the parts of 802.11e that are appearing in early commercial implementations (such as the

Wi-Fi Alliance’s WMM-compliant equipment) relate to traffic prioritization and novel non-
