These three items in combination provide a robust, efficient, and scalable admission-control
system that works over many media types, including 802.11. Although it is not obvious that
the authentication model is of direct importance to the roaming topic, the reader requires a
basic understanding of this paradigm in order to absorb the material on fast secure roaming
presented in Chapter 7. In addition, here we discuss some alternative non-IEEE standard
authentication models that are in use, as of this writing.
