Compact cameras are more advanced than a basic point-and-shoot, but they don’t have interchangeable lenses. These cameras can actually cost more than an introductory DSLR kit and can do a good job with this type of photography. Because the lens can’t be changed, you will have to work with the focal lengths and apertures that are available.
TIP
If you are looking to buy a compact camera, look for one with an actual hot shoe where a flash can be mounted. Without that, you are limited when it comes to using a flash to illuminate the items you are photographing.
