It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Flash
A dedicated flash unit can produce really great light for product photography if used correctly. Many people shy away from using a flash or recommend against it, because the flash is usually used incorrectly. You do not want to use the built-in flash or a flash where the flash head cannot be adjusted.
The head of the flash, like the one attached to this Nikon SB-800, can be positioned to bounce the light rather than be stuck pointing in one direction.
A flash head that can be rotated allows the light to be bounced so it illuminates the subject indirectly and creates a softer, more pleasing light.
