So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Maximum Aperture
The maximum aperture of a lens is how wide it can open to let in the maximum amount of light. Because the aperture controls the depth of field, the wider the lens can open, the narrower the depth of field you can get. This doesn’t make much difference when you are shooting against a white background indoors, but it can make a difference when shooting outdoors and trying to blur the background.
There are two different types of lenses: those with a constant maximum aperture and those with a variable maximum aperture. Constant maximum aperture lenses have the same widest aperture no matter what focal length they are used at. For example, the 70-20mm f/2.8 lens from Nikon has a maximum aperture of f/2.8 when used at 70mm, 200mm, ...
