One of the newer advances in photography lighting is the LED panel, a constant light source that is mainly used for video but works really well for photography as well. These lights work especially well in photography in which the subject isn’t moving, because the lights are not especially bright.
The LED panel shown here takes five AA batteries, puts out a fair amount of light, and costs less than $300. The advantage to using a constant light source is the same as using the sunlight: You can see exactly how the light illuminates your subject before you take the photo.
