The Amazon rainforest is an established distributed target for SAR data calibration, as announced by
the SAR subgroup of the Working Group on Calibration and Validation (WGCV) of the Committee
on Earth Observation Satellite (CEOS). The Amazon rainforest was used for ERS- 1/ 2, J- ERS- 1,
RADARSAT- 1/ 2, ENVISAT, RISAT- 1, EOS-04 etc., providing a large isotropic backscattering ref-
erence over a wide range of incidence angle.
