Speckle Reduction in SAR Images

Lee and the sigma lters, most new development of lters is in the nonlocal or patch- based frame-

work. The reported patch- based techniques have shown an excellent performance in speckle reduc-

tion of single- and multi- channel SAR images as compared to conventional local- based techniques.

We see that the current horizons of despeckling are moving towards this nonlocal framework. The

heart of the patch- based approach is the denition of the similarity criterion, while several measures

have been developed so far that are not only useful for despeckling, but can also be used for clas-

sication, change detection, and target identication. Some open issues still remain to be resolved,
